The Castle is very close to both Shrewsbury Bus Station and Shrewsbury Railway Station.

Meeting with staff

If you are visiting the Museum and wish to talk to a member of staff regarding a research enquiry or making a donation to the museum collections please call in advance to make an appointment.

Opening Hours


From February 20th to May 26th it is open 10.30 to 16.00 but closed on Thursdays and Sundays.

Note: Open Easter Sunday 16th April, 10.30 to 16.00


From May 27th to September 10th it is open 10.30 to 17.00 but closed on Thursdays.

Sunday opening hours are 10.30 to 16.00.


From September 11th to December 16th it is open 10.30 to 16.00 but closed on Thursdays and Sundays.

Winter closure

The Castle will be closed during the winter period from December 17th to February 18th to allow for essential maintenance work. The museum will reopen Monday 19th February 2018.

Visitors coming from a long distance are advised to 'phone for up-to-date information.

Adults (18+): £4.00
Senior Citizen (of State Pension Age): £3.00
Children: £1.00
Under 5's and former members of the Shropshire Regiments: free

Proof of eligibility may be required

Disabled Access

Disabled access is available to both main floors of the Museum. Parking may be available for disabled visitors by prior arrangement. Please call to enquire.

Gift Shop

The Museum shop within the Castle sells a wide range of regimental books, ties, chinaware, military music CDs, souvenir items and other gifts. 


There are no cafe or restaurant facilities at the Museum, but packed lunches etc. may be eaten in the Castle grounds. There are many good cafes and restaurants in the town centre within a short distance of the Castle.  

Car Parking

There is no car parking in the Museum grounds but disabled parking may be available by prior arrangement.

The large town centre car parks are within easy walking distance of the Castle.

Other functions

The Castle is licensed as a wedding venue and for civil partnerships and its Circular Room may also be hired for meetings, lectures etc.
